Speech and Language Therapy Services for Children and Adult

The Speech and Language Therapy services here at KIND provide assessment and diagnosis for both children and adult population who experience speech and language difficulty or disorder.

For children, hearing and speech are very important in order to develop effective communication. From a very young age, the child starts to learn the early stages of effective and proper communication and continues to improve till adulthood. When the child’s communication skills are not at the same level as those of his or her peers, this can lead to frustration or anxiety which might cause withdrawal.

Speech and Language Therapy for children at KIND provides a comprehensive and complete service that will assess and manage the child’s hearing and speech using specialized methods and approaches. 

A child may present with speech, language and/or communication difficulties that could be due to the following causes:

For adult population, Speech and Language Therapy Services here at KIND provide assessment and diagnosis for adults with communication and swallowing disorders or difficulties as a result of acquired neurologic disorders or an unknown cause. Below are some of the cases that cause communication and swallowing difficulty.

1. Speech Disorder is a condition where normal speech is disrupted and people have difficulties pronouncing sounds.  Some of the cases that can result in having speech disorders are:

  • Apraxia
  • Dysarthria
  • Stuttering
  • Voice

2. Language Disorder is having difficulties in expressing oneself and understanding others. The most common case that causes language disorder is Aphasia.

3. Feeding and Swallowing (Dysphagia) disorder or other difficulties with the upper aerodigestive tract.

4. Voice

  • Hoarseness (dysphonia)
  • Poor vocal volume (hypophonia)
  • Abnormal Vocal Quality (e.g. rough, breathy, strained)
